When we come across a monochrome game, we take such a design move as an implication of depression and grief expecting some gloomy, disturbing gameplay. And that’s definitely true for The White Door 2. This point-and-click puzzle tells a story of a hospital patient confined to a small white ward where he is recovering from an accident that wiped his memory clean. As common for Rusty Lake, there is a detective plot behind it. But it’s going to take days of following the daily white-coat routine before you start noticing strange little things that will make you wonder. Some tiny changes in the fuss of the nurses behind the door, receiving an empty plate rather than the usual 5pm meal – this stuff barely worth any attention feels like major story turners in the boundaries of your solitary cell.

So, your name is Robert Hill and it’s the 70’s. You read your name in your driving license that you found in the drawer and the date was on the wall calendar. These are the only details you know so far. Aside from the fact that you’re in a mental facility after losing your entire memory. What kind of person were you? Who were your family and friends? What happened to you? You have no idea. Getting your pills and fresh sheets on a daily basis, you can suppose you’re in the caring hands and nothing threatens you anymore. But the feeling that something is wrong here won’t let go of you. So you decide to delve deeper into the subject and use the time you have here (basically, all the time in the world) to shed some light on your background.

This is where all those weird dreams you’ve been having come in handy. You actually have trouble distinguishing them from reality – are the hideous rats and eerie shadows appearing in your ward for real or not? Anyway, all this gives Robert some more material about his subconscious to rely on. Between your mundane occupations at the hospital like brushing your teeth and getting out to dine with the other patients, you’ll have a chance to escape into your imaginary world in a hope that some flashes of your past will run before your weary eyes. There are even more clever puzzles and creepy mysteries waiting for you in The White Door 2, don’t leave them unsolved!
